Hashimoto's and HIVES!!!

From: summerm01 - 8 years 25 weeks ago

Help! I am a 35 year old female who in high school had hives and was told that I had food and medicine allergies with no allergy testing involved!! Now, beginning last November 2012 I started getting hives in areas around my bra and underwear line, which I attributed to an allergy to elastic. I changed my underwear to a looser size and spent hundreds of dollars doing so, only to fail in my pursuit that it was pressure urticaria only. Well, was I ever wrong! In 2013 late January, I went to my dermatologist because I kept getting this itchy, red rash on my knees. I thought it was eczema, and it was. He did a bloodtest to check TSH and it came back in the 16's. I then saw an Endo and found out I had nodules that needed to be Biopsied. That test came back benign:) I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Hypothyroidism, and am being treated by an Immunologist with Levothyroxine 100 mcg which began 3/7/13. I still have these terrible hives all over that seem to get worse at night and early morning!! I also have Adema in my facial area (eyes, nose, lips swell). Sulfa drugs increase the hives and swelling too. I just recently started taking REAL brand name Synthroid 100 mcg on 4/23/13. Other symptoms include: panic attacks, hairloss, fatigue, loss of intimacy, and depression. Any thoughts out there? If so, I welcome them with open arms!!! I am miserable:(

Hun the reason I believe is that you dont have enough T3 in your body 5o get to the cells! Symptoms dont improve unless this happens. Ask your doctor about combination therapy! Do not settle for remaining sick. Find another Thyroid doctor if your not getting the help! I suffered for over 30 yrs. Its inhumane!

Also Armour Thyroid has a symptom of rash. It's a negative side effect in case that's what your taking!

I had commented on this thread before, but wanted to add more. After suffering with hives of "unknown origin" and other issues going o doctor after doctor that wasn't curious and never helped find the root cause, my naturopathic doctor determined it was thyroid related and had to do with receptors that carry iodine to all the cells in my body. For whatever reason I need to flood my body with iodine and this is the only way to keep the hives away. I also need to keep my TSH very very low to feel well and keep the hives away. I take a compounded T3/T4 that my ND manages, and my TSH is around 0.13. No endo will allow this, but over the past seven years since I had the urticaria and angiodema I have found that i feel best with a suppressed TSH and loads of Iodine. I take a supplement by Thorne (or Designs for Health) that is Iodine & Tyrosine. I take 2 in the am and 2 in the pm (though I started at much higher dose when I had horrible hives. see other comment for details). I have also figured out that I have an MTHFR genetic defect. I am not sure if this is related, but have met many others with this same defect (which effect methylation and detox) and they have similar health-related issues (intolerance of gluten, food sensitivities, vax-injured...)
Most endocrinologists and allergists were not helpful at all for me. they just wanted to stick me on Synthroid and steroids and allergy pills and zantac, etc. They never cared to figure it out.

Good luck to everyone out there - don't stop til you find a doctor that is curious and can help you.

My son was diagnosed diabetes 2008. He is in his late 30’s. He urinate a lot, usually during the night and his blood sugar was 600. I do not know where he could have inherited it. Since then I have worked on finding a good way to control it or reverse it. and I was introduced to Tree of Life Herbal Clinic and ever seem My son started using diabetes herbal formula I purchased online from Tree of Life Herbal Clinic November last year. After 5 weeks of usage, his diabetes was totally reversed, blood sugar now normal and his last A-1C was 4.0 perfect. To know more about Tree of Life Herbal Clinic visitwww.treeoflifeherbalclinic.com

It took me a while to find someone that was curious about my debilitating hives and angiodema, but found a naturopathic Dr that discovered I needed very high doses of iodine and a suppressed TSH (so upped my compounded T3 T4 meds) to get rid of the hives. Nothing else worked and all of the other "specialists" - endos and allergists -said the hives were of "unknown cause" and they just wanted me to take 7 zyrtec/day and zantac and steroids. I haven't had hives in years since taking 1350 - 2025mcg Iodine per day. If i forget or run out I will start to get itchy with pinhead-sized hives that then go away once i get back on iodine. I am still working on healing my thyroid and other autoimmune issues, but thankfully havent had hives in 8 years! (I have hashi and MTHFR genetic defect)
