Newly Diagnosed....can't get answers

From: LeslieB - 2 years 19 weeks ago

Hello! I'm so glad to have found this website. I will try to make this first post as short as possible. I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism a few months ago after a couple of routine bloodwork results showed elevated was over 6. I had NONE of the classic symptoms. I only have heart palpitations which I have had for years and I take Toprol for it, which controls it pretty well. After taking 0.025 mg of levothyroxine for 3 months, my levels are still elevated but have dropped a little....between 5 and 6. The thing is, since I have started taking my meds, my hair has started falling, my nails have become brittle and my cholesterol is through the roof. It's my understanding that the meds are supposed to actually help with cholesterol numbers....instead they have gone WAY up. I cannot get any answers from my new endocrinologist, whom I have only visited once and I'll be trying another doctor soon. I never had falling hair or brittle nails before I was diagnosed and now all of a sudden everything is going haywire after I began treatment. No one can tell me why this is happening so I'm thinking the meds are doing more harm than good and perhaps my condition does not need treatment.....??? I will try one more endocrinologist and if he still shrugs at me, I will just get off the meds. I want a doctor who can tell me exactly what I need to do, not ask me what I want to do. Any advice?
